An African proverb speaks about the importance of embracing the wisdom of someone who is new to a place, who can see and bring fresh ideas, along with someone who may have the wisdom born out of experience, having lived though the challenges of figuring out how best to do something. As we begin the school year I welcome the opportunity to bring these two components of wisdom together in my role as a school superintendent. It is my hope that the collective wisdom of the school community…

Let teachers help teachers with the Common Core State Standards
One of the best aspects of the Common Core State Standards is their focus on student literacy across subjects, rather than segregated in a single subject period of ELA, writes teacher Susan Carle on the Center for Teaching Quality website. Yet many non-ELA teachers have found cross-curricular literacy an uneasy transition. Some difficulty stems from educators asked to teach with unfamiliar Common…

The more I study this thing, the more appalled I am. The fact that it’s in disarray at the moment is a great blessing. I hope people can get their bearings and realize that letting a bunch of left-wing extremists, or any kind of extremists, take over your school system is a big mistake.
I don’t think people appreciate how similar (or parallel) Common Core is to ObamaCare, i.e., a massive federal intrusion with a rule for everything. And once they got…

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
