Judith Warner, The Washington Post

“The pandemic hasn’t created a children’s mental health crisis out of nowhere; rather, it’s shone a spotlight on a catastrophe that has been hiding in plain sight for a very long time.”

Why is math so difficult for our schools?

Kids can't seem to learn math. The teachers don't seem to know math. National scores continue to fall. What exactly is the problem?

Aside from doing the obvious like making a good first impression by introducing yourself to the various stakeholder groups, coming up to speed on what is going on, and doing a “listening tour”, which all are certainly good things to do, you need to consider the following:

  • Be visible and…

Public schools are getting dumber? Does anyone care?

I think the dumbing down of public schools is the biggest problem we have. This would be easy to fix.

Apparently, our education establishment believes the creed: make them dumb, our time will come.

This decline in general intelligence leads to lots of collateral damage. People hardly have common sense, never…

Fundamental truth about education. Please read.

If schools are run properly, children will be full of confidence and enthusiasm.

If children are morose and failing, you know the people in charge are incompetent.

See Episode 35 on this podcast. Hope versus Hopelessness. It often seems to me that schools are organized to produce hopelessness. That's a terrible thought, isn't…
