THE MEANING OF THE LUCY CALKINS FIASCO

Please, everyone read this and confront what it's saying. This woman created a new version of Whole Word, i.e., another way to sell sight-words to unsuspecting victims. Basically…

Going back almost 90 years, the hard left wanted to use the public schools as a way to change the world.
Roughly in 1921, sight-words were forced into the public schools, and we've had nothing but decline ever since. (The professors knew it would flop thanks to Dr. Samuel Orton's research.)
Now, we have reached a stage of general bewilderment. The Education Establishment cannot tell the truth about anything that it does. They want dumbing down. Can they say…

Teacher question: I’ve heard that having students read digital texts is a bad idea, but our school has purchased tablets for everybody and wants us to use these for much of our instruction. What say you? Good idea or bad idea?
Shanahan responds:
Generally, research has found that digital books are read…

Teacher question:
Are we supposed to teach reading strategies or not? I keep coming across contradictory information. Some writers say the research supports strategy teaching and some say that we should teach background information instead. I respect your opinion. What do you think?
Shanahan…

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
