What does leadership become when compliance rules the day? Is the conversation how to get the job done and make people feel good about it? There is new curriculum, a teacher evaluation process, new standardized tests, new assessments, more data and new technology. None come with new resources to support the work. All purportedly are intended to improve teacher performance and student achievement. The messages come fast and furious through administration, through teachers, and land on…

Observe and honor random acts of kindness among your students. Hold an honor day once a week to hand out certificates. Acknowledge that there were so many other random acts of kindness that you could not honor everyone, but everyone will get honored in time. Acknowledge how you felt observing these acts. Perhaps a kindness box could be placed in the classroom where both you and your students could describe random acts of kindness you observed. So as not to make anyone feel awkward, the…

Productivity vs creativity in writing by Adriana Escobar
Many people argue what is more important, productivity or creativity. But if you want to write really good academic papers, you should be both productive and creative.
If your work is creative but not productive, you may lose a lot of your money and time. If it’s productive but not creative, you can get your result in time but it may not be interesting for other people.
How to improve your…

Teachers and leaders alike have been calling for students to be seen as more than a number earned on a standardized test. We know that our intention is to prepare them for college and career, but the focus on standardized measurement has pulled attention away from the other measures that count as well. Multiple measures to assess and demonstrate readiness need to be returned as central. The high school diploma holds the potential to help pull attention away from the singular measures…

Doctors. Lawyers. Mayors. Police Commissioners. Presidents. Mafioso crime boss. Even a cancer-ridden high school chemistry teacher. Can you spot the pattern?
Portrayals of these careers have filled hours of American prime time television.
Welcome American Private and Public School Administrators! You, too, now have a hit television program that charts your highs and lows. But you’re fortunate to have a writer/showrunner as astute as…

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
