When you have 3 minutes, check it out here: http://www.givemore.com/ctl/
I'd love to hear what you think. …

What do we hear when we give our 18-year-old students a chance to express their views and concerns regarding their education? I listened to five students recently and not surprisingly they have a deep desire to experience a more purposeful and engaging school experience. They like their school, their teachers, and their friends. But, intuitively they recognize how we must dig deeper, and to systemically create a more profound experience that is not rooted in mandates, standardization and…

In my work as an educator and as someone who seeks to help lead others to consider the prospects of change in order to meet the needs of education in the 21st Century I have followed a basic principle that the why is more important than the how. If we develop a strong enough why, then we will determine how to institute the necessary changes leading towards any improvement.
Consider the need to prepare our students for learning in the 21st Century. Given the financial and…

The list of 99 books, drawn from 191 official nominations, is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. In 2010, YALSA restructured the charge for the Best Books for Young Adults committee and renamed it Best Fiction for Young Adults. The 2011 list is the first for the new committee.

The Gift of Advice
‘Tis the season of gifting. This time of year, we diligently fret over the gifts we wish to give our loved ones and give some thought, possibly selfishly, to the gifts we want to receive. As I age, I reflect more and more on perhaps the greatest gift I received in my life -- good advice. Sometimes I was ready to receive that advice,…

Research from two well-respected organizations makes it clear that we have a big collective blind spot that’s dragging down productivity, innovation and economic performance. Earlier this year, a Conference Board research report showed that job satisfaction is at the lowest level since the organization began measuring it more than 20 years ago. The report went on to show this has been a…
