SED is convening a series of regional meetings to discuss a broad range of possible revisions to high school program and graduation requirements. There are eight meetings in all, including the one in your area listed below. Your participation will provide you with an important opportunity to weigh in on the possibilities that you feel are appropriate and productive, as well as to advise against those that you expect will produce unintended negative results.

Each meeting will run from 5:30 to 7:00, and will be hosted by a member of the Board of Regents. The format will include a brief presentation of options under consideration, followed by an opportunity for participants to contribute.

The range of possible revisions is extensive and includes, but is not limited to:

  * Increasing course requirements 
  * Revising Regents examinations and/or cut scores
  * Allowing student choice in the examinations to be challenged
  * Establishing new alternative credentials
  * Rethinking the special education "safety net"
  * Extending the school day/year
  * Eliminating the "seat time" requirement
