Professional Performance Review (APPR) as a Second Order Change Challenge: Seven Leadership Responsibilities for Principals to Emphasize
Why do change efforts often prove unsuccessful? Research by Robert Marzano (described in his book, “School Leadership that Works”) points to the failure of school leaders to adequately consider the complexity of a desired change initiative.
On February 11, 2011, an old friend of our group, Dr. Joan Daly-Lewis, will be joining us to examine professional performance review as a “second order change.” She will review with us seven leadership responsibilities that must be addressed in supporting any initiative that requires deep change. This will NOT be a review of the APPR legislation, but rather a timely examination of the challenges we face in fostering a belief that shared examination of teaching practices can help us to produce exceptional results in our schools.
This workshop is free for all 2010-11 NCESPA members. NCESPAmembers, please let us know you are coming by replying toSTERNBERGD@WANTAGHSCHOOLS.ORG . Non-members: The cost of the workshop for non-members will be $15 per person.
Membership applications will be available at the door.
