Forum on GSA's and LGBT Issues May 25 – 4pm - Jericho Middle School

Does your school have a Gay Straight Alliance?  Do you understand the issues faced by LGBT students?  Are you aware that research indicates that schools that have GSA's are safer for allstudents?

The Nassau County Anti-Bias Consortium and the Nassau County Middle Level Principals Association are sponsoring a forum to raise awareness and share information about these timely and critical issues in our schools.  All educators are encouraged to attend.

You will learn:

• About issues faced by LGBT and diverse students in our schools
• How to link LGBT to other forms of prejudice and oppression in schools
• Activities to do with your staff to build awareness about LGBT and diversity issues
• About the processes used by schools to successfully initiate GSA's
• Where to find support and resources for GSA's including curriculum connections

Presenters/Facilitators: Donald Gately, Principal, Jericho Middle School; Dr. Scott Quasha, School Psychologist, Rockville Centre; Elisa Waters, Spanish teacher/ Diversity Educator, Jericho Middle School.

This forum will be an opportunity for a sharing of information from schools that have successful programs and for attendees to workshop ideas for getting a successful program off the ground.
