Common Core – so what’s the score now?

Basically, many and perhaps most states are backing away fast. The key term is: moratorium.

That’s where you stick something in a storage shed and wait for conditions to improve.

In this case,  the states need to extricate themselves from the grabby embrace of the federal government. Meanwhile, the Common Core Cartel hopes that the public will forget how much they hate Common Core.

 Not likely.

And people like me are urging that the hostility to Common Core should be used to get rid of Reform Math in its entirety.

Here's an article that gives a sense of what various states are doing:

Common Core + Moratorium = Better Education

Here is a second article which argues that the Education Establishment will merely try to regroup and repackage, so don't accept any of their new offerings. Get rid of Reform Math in its entirety and use only Singapore Math, Saxon Math or the equivalent. (Seriously, all this earnest chatter about STEM is just one big lie if you're not going to make sure kids can do  elementary arithmetic.)

Reform Math must be destroyed root and branch

Bill Gates spent $3 billion promoting Common Core. A ragtag army opposed him and that ragtag army is winning.  There is cause for celebration.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
