Introducing INTEL® Teach Essentials 10.1 to Districts & Teacher Centers

Introducing the INTEL® Teach programs sometimes requires more effort that sending a link to a Teacher Center director with more information. How have you been able to introduce the program in your district or teacher center? Has it been through word of mouth? Have teachers been trained in the INTEL® Teach courses in the past? How have you been able to show its benefits? We'd love to hear!

Intel Essentials was taught this past spring through the TRACT Center (Teacher Resourse and Computer Training). This course was advertised through the TRACT Center brochure as well as word of mouth. However, since the technology is not the best, participants were reluctant to participate. This year it will be introduced through the Hempstead ClassroomTeachers Union (HCTA) Graduate Program. This will hopefully bring more participation from our teachers as they will received 3 graduate credits that will help them to either enhance their earning potential or increase their graduate credits toward their masters degree. The district is in the process of upgrading the hardware and Internet connection. Hopefully this upgrade will afford Teachers the opportunity to utilize the technology to enhance student learning across the core curriculums.
Pamela, running the Intel course close to home is is great news! Sometimes, a disconnect from a district or from people you work with every day can be overwhelming for those that initially feel uncomfortable with technology. Please let me know how I can help!
In addition, the upgrade of technology infrastructure will most definitely help teachers to feel like technology is being looked at as a serious part of the teaching and learning environment. Technical Support (in addition to pd support and leadership) is an important piece in making "outside" learning experiences happen. Research has shown that roadblocks encountered when attempting to use the technology has a negative effect on the use of technology in instruction going forward. We want positive experiences so teachers can be and feel successful!
