Summer Holocaust Institute: Current Methods in Teaching
the Holocaust and Tolerance
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County will offer its annual Summer Holocaust Institute on June 28-June 30, 2011 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Each day of this course will be divided into two sections. The morning will be spent discussing Holocaust History with the Center’s two historians, Beth Lilach, Senior Director of Education, and Dr. Sarah Cushman, Director of Youth Education. After lunch, participants will work with current secondary teachers who have implemented Holocaust and Tolerance curriculum in their classrooms for decades. Based on current historical perspectives and utilizing the most current teaching methods, this Institute is designed to help teachers effectively bring the lessons of the Holocaust to their students and to promote tolerance in their classrooms throughout the academic year.
Professional Development Credit: this is a 15-hour course. Inquire with your individual district to ensure you can obtain credit for participation.
Cost: $200 (Lunch Included) – limited stipends available
