You are cordially invited to attend LILAC’s final luncheon/workshop of the 2010-2011 school year. Please join us and fellow colleagues at Captain Bill’s Restaurant in Bay Shore from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011. Captain Bill’s Restaurant is located at 122 Ocean Ave, Bay Shore 11706. For additional directions, please call Captain Bill’s directly at (631) 665-6262. Our luncheon sponsor will be Norman Cohen of Everbind Publishers.
During the luncheon, we will be honoring the student winners of the Kenneth Gambone Writing Contest. We will also be honoring our local teachers who received the 2010 New York State English Council Teacher of Excellence awards.
Our featured presenter will be Ms. Shari Maurer whose young adult debut novel Change of Heart was published in the spring of 2010. After graduation from New York University's Dramatic Writing graduate program, Maurer enjoyed six years of traveling around the world as she entertained and educated young kids while at the Children's Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop) working on international versions of Sesame Street and other children’s programs. Now, married to a cardiologist and the mother of a child born with a heart defect, she is also the co-author of The Parent's Guide to Children's Congenital Heart Defects. You can learn more about Ms. Maurer atwww.sharimaurer.com or by following her onFacebook or Twitter.
The menu for the luncheon will include fresh mozzarella, portabella mushroom and tomato salad; Caesar salad; choice of sliced sirloin with merlot sauce, salmon filet with soy ginger sauce or stuffed chicken with prosciutto and mozzarella in marsala wine sauce; potato and vegetable du jour, brownie a la mode, coffee or tea. Selections will be made upon arrival.
We hope you will join us to celebrate our talented student writers and excellent teachers, for Ms. Maurer’s presentation, sponsored by Everbind Publishers, and the opportunity to exchange instructional ideas about effective strategies with colleagues from across Long Island. Pricing for the luncheon will be $35.00 for LILAC members and $38.00 for non-members. Please tear off the registration form below and send it, with a check payable to LILAC to the address listed below.
For your convenience, if you have not yet renewed your membership for this year, you can renew at the same time by including your completed membership form and a separate check made out to LILAC for $30. Those who join by mail will pay the membership price for the luncheon. We do not accept purchase orders. Thank you.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
