Event Description

Invitation for central and building administrators, literacy coaches/specialists, ELA consultants, and lead teachers interested in impacting literacy learning on Long Island, to attend the regional ELA Coordinator Network Meeting.

Carol Varsalona will facilitate a professional conversation on the topic of Next Steps With Curriculum with guest presenters from the Regents Research Fund and State Education Department:

Kate Gerson: Senior Fellow for Common Core and Educator Engagement

Dave Abel: Fellow for the Common Core

Amy Rudat: Race to the Top Project Assistant

Erik Sweet: Associate in English Language Arts

During this meeting, ELA coordinators can meet with RRF and SED staff to discuss

-opportunities to adapt the ELA curriculum modules to meet the needs of their students

-any anticipated challenges with regard to effective implementation

-opportunities to plan for the 2014-15 school year (including using the ELA HS modules)

Breakout discussions with cross-Long Island district conversations will be chaired by the presentation team.

Included in each three hour PD opportunity at Western Suffolk BOCES will be a continental breakfast and display of resources that supports the Common Core by Baum and Beaulieu Associates.
