Are you concerned about the education of poor and minority students?

My starting point was that the US could not create 50 million functional illiterates if the people at the top cared. It’s shocking to me that this decline has gone on for so many decades. Flesch spelled out the whole thing in 1955 but somehow our Education Establishment went on with their social engineering schemes.

So for the last few months I’ve been wondering: how do we wake up the rich, the successful, the leaders, the movers and shakers in all areas. I’d like all of them to feel a bit more guilty so they become a bit more involved in the fact that many kids in middle school can’t actually read a newspaper. We can do so much better. (Two-thirds of eighth-graders are said to be "below proficient.")

Bill Gates cared enough to spend 1 billion of his own money, but he was on the wrong side. He wanted to push Common Core. Where are the people like that on the common sense, traditional side? There seems to be a big silence and far too much passivity.

“K-12: Let the Peasants Eat Popcorn” provoked 500+ comments on American Thinker, so you know this is a subject that concerns many people.
