A melancholy acknowledgment that our Education Establishment has successfully sabotaged traditional education in virtually every situation.

Instead, public schools tend to do things in the most chaotic and least efficient ways. You can look at reading, math, history, science, you can look at every grade, and every corner of the school, and you will find that progressive education muddles everything and makes it less efficient.

Fortunately, according to this article, there is one place where you still find traditional education in practice. That would be any foreign language classroom.

Everything is really quite simplistic by today's standards: sages teach, students learn. You start with the simplest, easiest stuff. You move in a systematic way to the more difficult stuff. This is the obvious way every class should be organized.

Nothing is hidden. Teachers and observers can easily evaluate the progress of the students. (That is what we are losing in the Common Core classroom. They want to assess and discuss each step in newfangled ways that hide whether anybody is actually learning anything.)
