N. Y. Times Endorses Phonics...Must Read!!!

Surprising news. Times ran big research article titled: "Why Are We Still Teaching Reading the Wrong Way?"

Stop messing around....phonics is the only game in town....that's what the Times said.

This is wonderful news. Why they did it now, I don't know. Why didn't they do it 25 or 50 years ago, thats my question, as discussed here: "K-12:  the Politics of Illiteracy."

US has 40 million functional illiterates, most of them created by dysfunctional teaching methods. Whole Word or Look-Say were always, in my opinion, bogus. The New York Times helped keep those bad methods in play.

Maybe they felt guilty. I'm sure that around the world, professors are having panic attacks as they see the basis of a career destroyed. For reformers, it's a good time. Things should loosen up. Well, I can hope.
