Good news: digital tools will save education, after all.

Bruce Deitrick Price

The big debate for many years is whether computers can save K-12. Most of the ideas floated in the past 10 years were not very helpful.

Then I became aware that visionary artists are creating videos that are a magnitude more effective than what we had seen. A picture is worth 1000 words. A good video must be worth 10,000 words. Lectures and textbooks can hardly compete

The mistake was to think that traditional publishers or the Education Establishment would be innovative. I think they are invested in the status quo.

My optimistic predictions are based on brilliant people doing brilliant new work, which the marketplace finds and rewards. The material has to be at the level where people seek it out for entertainment, for fun.

I found an 8-minute video showing the destruction of Pompeii. Views so far almost 14,000,000. Very impressive.

Reminder:

"Saving K-12" continues to be the best short summary of what has happened to our public schools. Less than 190 pages but it covers all the main problems.
