Customized learning-- the hype is tremendous.

Whenever the Education Establishment is gung-ho about something, I assume it’s going to be a disaster, perhaps not for the Education Establishment but for education itself.

People selling digital technology are naturally overjoyed to find billions of dollars coming their way. I get that part.

The role of the teacher will be further diminished. I know the Education Establishment likes that because we see this reaction in Constructivism. I’m deeply suspicious. I think teachers should be more important. I want teachers to be sages on stages.

But the aspect that has troubled me the most is that every kid in the classroom is going to have a different curriculum, and know different things. Why is that good? The school should decide what is worth knowing and make sure all the kids know it. Our culture will become more incoherent, our students more ignorant.
