5. Watch cognitive load.
If students are struggling simply to comprehend demanding material, additional retrieval demands may be premature.

6. Avoid turning research findings into routines without judgment.
The instructional question should never be simply, “Are teachers using retrieval practice?” A better question is: Are they using it at the right time, for the right knowledge, in the right way?
