Updated evidence report on Reading Recovery

An updated report from the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) provides new information on the effectiveness of Reading Recovery for beginning readers. Reading Recovery is a supplemental program that provides one-to-one tutoring to first graders. It aims to promote literacy skills and foster the development of reading and writing strategies by tailoring individualized lessons to each child. The WWC found that Reading Recovery has positive effects on general reading achievement and potentially positive effects on alphabetics, reading fluency, and comprehension for beginning readers. Read the full report to learn more about the studies that contributed to these ratings.

Robert Slavin, director of the Center for Research and Reform in Education, published a blog post on Reading Recovery. In it, Jerry D'Agostino, director of Reading Recovery's i3 project, explains how Reading Recovery has dealt with the challenge of long-term sustainability.

Reading Recovery is a costly way to teach kids to read. The Reading Recovery teacher is expensive and can only hit a few kids a year. I was able to remediate 45 students using the Sing, Spell, Read & Write program. A much faster, easier and more comprehensive program which is multi-sensory and easily differentiated for each student.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
