Principals are often called upon to represent their school at community events. One of my favorite memories as a principal is attending the Optimist Club dinners where I had the opportunity to honor an outstanding teacher from our school. In addition to the privilege of paying tribute to an esteemed educator, I recall that part of the evening's ritual was to have members and guests recite the Optimist Creed. I was so inspired by its outlook and encouraging words that I placed my copy in a prominent place in my office so I could reread it over time. As you access the Just ASK 2013 Opening of School Checklist and begin planning for the 2013-2014 school year, may theOptimist Creed inspire you as it did me.
Promise yourself...
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
