The effects of education reform on teachers
This past fall, the Education Week Resource Center surveyed a national representation of K-12 teachers to determine how education reform is affecting them. The resulting report, Teachers and Education Reform, shows that although some feel these reforms are helpful, teachers are a little overwhelmed.

From the sample, 86% of teachers had experienced some kind of education reform in the prior two years, the most common types being changes in teacher evaluation, implementing a new curriculum, or new approaches to professional development. Fifty-eight percent said this amount of educational change was "too much/way too much." Less than half (44%) of the teachers said they received adequate training to implement the new reforms effectively. Most (84%) reported feeling like once they have a handle on a new reform, it changes and they must learn something new. Still, 58% feel that the reforms helped them change their practices for the better. Alarmingly, 44% of teachers reported that they consider leaving teaching because of these reforms. Of these, half have more than 20 years of experience, while only 27% of teachers with up to 3 years of experience report consideration of leaving the profession.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
