Pair literature, primary sources to boost connections

Pairing primary sources with literature -- such as a song mentioned in text or a photo connecting to it -- can enhance students' understanding, relatability and connection to the world, writes Tom Bober, a school librarian. Bober suggests ways in which students can participate in the process, such as taking the role of a researcher, and offers examples, including pairing George Orwell's "1984" with World War II propaganda.
