Measuring evidence through "impact audits"

ImpactMatters, a new organization founded by Yale economist Dean Karlan and a former student, is looking to change the way nonprofits and their donors use and create evidence to achieve their missions. They have developed a tool called the "impact audit" that seeks to answer the question, "Does the organization use and produce appropriate evidence of impact?" For these audits, ImpactMatters conducts an evidence review, document review, interviews with senior management, and cost of outcomes analysis, and then they pick out charities that are transparent, well-managed, and making a well-documented difference.

To date, the organization has released four impact audits in the fields of education, livelihood, and health. In education, they evaluated the impact of the Success for All Foundation (SFAF) and concluded that,"SFAF delivered a high-quality program to around 1,000 schools and 500,000 children last year that increases literacy as much as one grade equivalent, and reaches additional children at an approximate marginal cost of $119."

According to the ImpactMatters website, they will evaluate their own success using the following metrics:

·
Organizations shift towards more evidence-based programming as appropriate

·         Donations shift to appropriately evidence-based organizations

·         Impact audit standards are adopted by others, creating a market for impact

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
