The cognitive development required during the acquisition of a second language has been shown to enhance the brain's ability to switch between tasks, an important ability for all learners.  Why are we so comfortable with the rest of the world's advantage over us in this area?  Why do we put our students one down to all other learners?  Please don't be complacent about foreign language learning.  It is vital for a 21st century skill set.  It's mind-boggling to think that computer coding in any way replaces the broad scope of benefits fulfilled by learning to speak or read a language other than one's native tongue.
