Ideas on assessing student learning in real time

School leaders should strive to be proactive in assessing student learning in real time, but students tend to become anxious or lose focus when an administrator enters the classroom, writes Andrew Canle, an assistant principal at Shaw Avenue School in New York. To avoid disruptions during assessment, Canle recommends building relationships with students outside the classroom, creating a trusting relationship with teachers and assigning students to be classroom greeters.
