The Houston Independent School District is considering a new instructional model where teachers would spend the day teaching high-risk students but leave the administrative tasks, grading and behavioral issues to "teacher apprentices" -- much like how a surgeon enters the operating room to use their high-level skills but leaves the pre- and post-operation tasks to others. These teachers would earn higher salaries yet leave school each day without afterschool tasks, creating an improved work-life balance.
