The Southern Regional Education Board has produced a number of history, literacy, and science units for secondary schools

The following texts are required for the English units in this course.  These books are available at online retailers such as Amazon for less than $10 each.

ELA Unit 1: The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains by Nicholas Carr, W.W. Norton & Co, 2010.

ELA Unit 2: Ubik by Phillip K. Dick, Mariner Books, 2012.

Science Units 1 & 2:Click here to download the Biology Text for Science Units 1 & 2.  This excerpt of the Biology Text is a free download for schools.  The entire text can be downloaded from openstax college at cnx.org

Literacy Ready Interactive Academic Notebooks

To save time and money, downloadable versions are available for the Literacy Ready units. By downloading the interactive notebook from our site, students can complete the notebooks on their tablets. Please check with the Information Technology person at your school to determine what software might need to be installed. The software can typically be downloaded as a free application.

ELA Unit 1: Phineas Gage: A Gruesome but True Story About Brain Science.  Schools can order individual paperback copies from Amazon or other websites for under $10 per copy.

ELA Unit 2: Flowers for Algernon excerpt.  Schools can click on this link to download the pdf file of the  Flowers for Algernon excerpt and make copies as needed for use in their classrooms.
