Colleagues,
Today, I received emails from the NYSED presenters, Kate Gerson and David Abel, regarding the first ELA Coordinator Network Meeting on September 30, 2013 at WS BOCES. See attached flyer for further information.
David Abel has a conflict and will not be able to attend but he said that he would give Kate Gerson his materials on the new English Regents. Kate Gerson followed up with a quick email asking what specifically LI educators would like her to present about the assessments.
Here is our opportunity to drive the conversation.
Kate said that she would welcome questions so please forward me by Friday topics and pertinent questions about the 3-8 assessments and the new CC English Regents so that I can compile the information and send it on.
David Abel will be presenting at NYSEC and as I said he will give Kate his material. Title and blurb below:
The Common Core-Aligned ELA Regents: How the Assessment is Shifting with the following blurb:
  • This presentation will introduce the ELA Regents Examination (Common Core) that will be administered beginning June 2014. We will discuss how the passages, rubrics, questions and question types have shifted in order to measure the Common Core Learning Standards in English Language Arts.  We will also discuss the design considerations that go into the construction of the assessment.
I welcome your thoughts on this matter. Thank you.
