History and government educators across the country are taking a variety of approaches to teaching the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol ahead of the third anniversary of the insurrection. Several teachers are using the recent event to draw parallels between the Capitol attack and historical events like Shays' Rebellion of 1786-87 or the 1898 Wilmington Massacre, but other educators say they are avoiding the topic because the issue is controversial.
