Early findings of Gates' investment in teacher professional development
With the implementation of Common Core State Standards, teachers are expected to improve their students' achievement. A December report from MDRC discusses whether teachers' professional development opportunities are keeping pace with these expectations.
MDRC is studying the results of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation'sInnovative Professional Development challenge, which will provide redesigned professional development for teachers in five districts in California, Colorado, and Connecticut. The Foundation hopes to show that improving teacher support leads to better student outcomes. MDRC's baseline results that will inform the redesign include:
MDRC will study the results of the Gates' professional development redesign initiative for the next three academic years.
