Does Improved Access to Algebra I for 8th Graders Improve Math Achievement?

REL-NEI conducted a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Maine and Vermont schools to assess whether improved access to Algebra I for eighth-graders benefits student ma.... In the study, an online Algebra I course was offered to a random selection of “algebra-ready” eighth-grade students. Their test scores and course-taking patterns were measured through the fall of 10th grade and compared with those of a control group of students who did not receive the Algebra I course. The study may inform future policy decisions around algebra instruction. Visit the study website or view a webinar to learn more, and stay tuned for publication of the final report.
