Once teachers are in the classroom, they have a great deal of power to influence student thought and opinion. | Anonymous |
I'm not too sure! There's no more respect in this country. All values are gone thru the windows especially since prayers were taken out of the classroom, yet the court rooms still proudly claim "In God we Trust". Confusing, conflicting & hypocritical!! Schools are no longer a placed to learn, the penal system has replaced the value of an education. Shame, shame, shame!! | Anonymous |
Absolutely not! They can protest on their own time but when they are in the school this is not and should not be an option. This is disrespectful to our country, those who have fought to defend our country, those currently fighting to defend, and so much more!!!!!! | Anonymous |
Completely inappropriate. | Anonymous |
I think it is an acceptable way to protest, but it wasn't acceptable to denounce the country's choice of president in front of students. | Anonymous |
I think it signals an unwillingness to justify one's decisions and evaluations of others. It looks like the behavior means to blame the society or nation for the new administration's anticipated policies. Although it might mean that the people are distinct from or opposed to this incoming administration, it is contradictory because the people voted for him, even if recklessly! The gesture signals political resistance without giving reasons. | Anonymous |
Sign of disrespect for those who have died under the banner of that flag to maintain our freedom and right to protest. There are far better ways to voice your opinion regarding the recent election that spit on the very freedom that flag affords them. Obviously, two individuals who have never been or worked abroad where such liberties are not given many citizens. Disgraceful. | Anonymous |
Teachers should not show their opinions on issues in front of their students. | Anonymous |
They should be be fired! A teachers job is to explain both sides clearly and fairly, not to dramatically influence the students views. Teachers that use their position to influence students with their political views are not teachers, they are dictators looking for converts. Unfortunately, this is all too common and I pity the poor students that cannot freely disagree with such strongly held views. |

The allegiance is to the flag and the country, not the president. poor modeling for students | Anonymous |

As a social studies teacher I have to say that I do not beleive the classroom is the place for this protest. To discuss the protests of others yes but to protest no. | Anonymous |
Disgraceful! They should have been fired! | Anonymous |
Unless they specifically stated what they were protesting, their actions are left open to interpretation. | Anonymous |

Public school classrooms should be cauldrons of inquiry and creative thought. They should NOT be pulpits for promoting political opinions, either on the right or on the left. With this in mind, I also am against vouchers for private schools. Our public schools should teach students HOW to think, not WHAT to think! | Anonymous |
Students should not know your political, religious or any controversial position. They need to be exposed to things in a balanced way to formulate their own positions | Anonymous |
Young adults should be left to examine and develop their own feelings and beliefs. As a role model we should not be displaying our own | Anonymous |

Don't confuse your students with your opinion . | Anonymous |
Political views are not classroom worthy | Anonymous |
Maybe not the kneeling part, but freedom of speech comes in many forms. Respect it! | Anonymous |
That is disgusting. Personal politics do not belong in the classroom. | Anonymous |
Not the place of an educator to share personal beliefs, you are a person of influence therefor you need to stay neutral. | Anonymous |
D.Trump is the best president of the USA | Anonymous |
Students are extreemly maluable and often do not have the skills or knowledge base to truely understand how powerful of a statement those two teachers made when kneeling. Instead they will read it as they hate Trump verses the importance of this moment and that we might have elected someone that does not represent the virtues of our nation. An act at this level without truely unbiasedly educating the students just breads ignorace and for an educator to do that is negligent in my eyes. | Anonymous |
Staff need to be neutral and may not show political preferences during a standard school activity. | Anonymous |
While teachers do not lose their constitutional rights as employees, this type of protest is inappropriate in a public school. They could merely stand quietly or even step into the doorway to demonstrate their displeasure. | Anonymous |
Not regarding our flag;it's disrespectful. There are other forms of protest and free speech. | Anonymous |
I don't agree with this type of disrespect anywhere, particularly in a school. Shame on them. | Anonymous |
Like your religiious views, check your personal political beliefs at the door. Do your job. Not complicated. | Anonymous |
Teachers need to model respect for the office of the president even if they disagree with the election results. | Anonymous |
Absolutely not! | Anonymous |
