Event Description

In partnership with Long Island University, the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island is delighted to announce the program for the 10th Annual Mentoring Matters Conference, which will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2014 on the beautiful campus of LIU/Post in Brookville.

This one of a kind day of learning offers Educators, Youth Development Professionals and Mentoring Program Providers an opportunity to learn and hear from local and national experts on topics related to positive youth development and quality-based mentoring initiatives for both formal and informal mentoring initiatives.

Professionals who attend receive timely, relevant and compelling information that can help them strengthen services and programs aimed to support children and youth, while also learning from and interacting with their counterparts from other schools and social service agencies in the tri-state area.

There is a dedicated track for people who are serving as Mentors (either formal or informal/natural mentoring) and these individuals greatly benefit from information and activities that are aimed at enhancing their knowledge base about positive youth engagement. Mentors can expect to explore and develop skills to address important social and interpersonal issues which influence relationship development.

(Please Note) There is a unique second day of the conference (Friday, March 14, 2014), which is exclusively for Mentees and Peer Mentors who are involved in mentoring. This “YOUTH Day” is an incredibly positive social and educational learning opportunity for Middle School and High School aged youth. The Youth Day is FREE, however,PRE-REGISTRATION is required as there is capacity seating. Anyone interested in bringing a group of Middle or High School aged youth to this conference must first complete appropriate pre-registration forms no later than January 29th.

Because the Mentoring Partnership’s mission is to help create and sustain high-quality mentoring initiatives, the fee for this conference is set very low so as not to prohibit professionals from attending. The registration fee is $50.00 for the professional development day and details about how to register can be found on page (7) of the brochure.

Inquiries about this conference or the work of the Mentoring Partnership can also be directed to Miss. Franca Floro, Director of Programs & Training at 631-761-7800 or via email to:  FFloro@mentorkids.org
