LIASCD is delighted to offer Long Island educators the opportunity to spend a full day with Douglas Fisher, Ph.D. and Nancy Frey, Ph.D. Fisher and Frey have collaborated on numerous books including: The Purposeful Classroom: How to Structure Lessons with Learning Goals in Mind, 50 Content Area Strategies for Adolescent Literacy, Better Learning Through Structured Teaching: A Framework for the Gradual Release of Responsibility, and Checking for Understanding: Formative Assessment Techniques for Your Classroom.
During the LIASCD 2012 Spring Conference, Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey will present a variety of strategies that educators at all levels can use to ensure that students clearly understand the purpose behind every lesson. They will provide step-by-step guidance to help educators:
Understand the difference between standards, objectives, and purpose statements, and craft the latter in terms that students can easily grasp.
Involve students in understanding and "owning" the purpose of every lesson.
Motivate students by conveying the relevance of content to students' lives.
Develop classroom activities and assessments that allow students to demonstrate both their mastery of lesson content and their understanding of the lesson’s core purpose.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource
Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and
other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching
practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
