The Instructional Rounds process was developed by Richard Elmore, Professor of Educational Leadership at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Inspired by the medical-rounds model used by physicians, Elmore and his colleagues have pioneered this highly effective form of professional learning to develop a shared practice of observing, discussing and analyzing teaching and learning. Dr. Elmore suggests that this process is specifically designed to help move school improvement efforts to the next level by maintaining commitment, monitoring progress, and holding everyone accountable.
