From DASA to Dignity Act: What schools need to know and do for July 1 Members of LI SEL Forum invite all educators to join us for an important discussion on the "DIGNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS ACT". Presenter: Mary Grenz Jalloh Executive Director, New York State Center for School Safety and Co-Chair of Dignity for All Students Professional Development Committee. Date: November 1, 2011 Time: 3:30 – 6:00 Place: Western Suffolk BOCES large conference room Cost: $25 pp (materials and light snack) The Dignity Act includes specific requirements for district policies and procedures with regard to the prevention, recording and response to all types of harassment. A significant component will be effective training for staff, and curriculum for students, in order to create a supportive learning environment, free from discrimination and harassment. It is clearly not just about bullying. It is about the intentional practices of staff and the culture they are responsible for creating in the school. The Long Island Social and Emotional Literacy Forum will provide opportunities for discussion about The Dignity Act throughout the 2011-12 school year. There will be additional after school workshops, as well as the annual LI SELF conference, scheduled for Friday, February 10th at WS BOCES, Wheatley Heights. More information will follow.Register for our Nov. 1 st Workshop at:Questions? Call Joann Zerbo 631 595-6843 or email jzerbo@wsboces.org |
