The Dignity Actincludes specific requirements for district policies and procedures with regard to the prevention, recording and response to all types of harassment. A significant component will be effective training for staff, and curriculum for students, in order to create a supportive learning environment, free from discrimination and harassment. It is clearly not just about bullying. It is about the intentional practices of staff and the culture they are responsible for creating in the school.
The Long Island Social and Emotional Literacy Forum will provide opportunities for discussion aboutThe Dignity Act throughout the 2011-12 school year. There will be additional after school workshops, as well as the annual LI SELF conference, scheduled for Friday, February 10th at WS BOCES, Wheatley Heights. More information will follow.
