Audience: Lead Teachers/Coaches, Classroom Teachers, Support Teachers

Dates: 10/23/2013 and 3 more throughout the year

Explore the call to impact teaching and learning charged by the NYS Common Core initiative and the role teachers as learners play in the effective implementation of the CCLS in ELA. Four after school collegial circles throughout the year will center on ways to deepen students' learning of the Common Core through the implementation of the curriculum modules. Focused topics and collegial discussions led by Carol Varsalona will examine steps to support students on the trajectory for college and career readiness. Subject matter includes: core components of CCLS, instructional shifts in ELA, the impact of growth mindset on the culture of achievement, reflective practices and protocols, effective curriculum and instruction practices embedded in the modules, the practice of adapting or adopting the modules, fidelity of practice, and growth-producing feedback. Join the conversation and exchange ideas with other teachers in a field that celebrates achievement on Long Island.
