PLEASE READ THE LETTER BELOW AND RSVP FOR THIS PROGRAM SOON – SPACE IS LIMITED – SO RESERVE NOW!

Dear Social Studies Directors, Chairs, and Teachers:

As part of Hofstra University’s hosting of the 2nd Presidential Debate this October, Hofstra is presenting the  second Democracy in Performance event on Monday, October 15, 2012, the day before the Presidential Debate.

I am writing to invite you to “Save the Date,” book buses, and reserve seats for your students to attend this free event at Hofstra University.

Go to:  http://www.hofstra.edu/pdf/Academics/Colleges/HCLAS/cce/cce_eod2012_postcard.pdf to see a copy of our postcard invitation, mailed to your principal.

Democracy in Performance is a series of 13 programs (some 55 minutes long, some 85 minutes long) that feature fully costumed professional living history scholar/performers and our best student performers in a variety of themed events that evoke today’s political issues by recreating pivotal moments in American History.

At every event, students will be invited to ask questions of our performers, who will answer in character.

Democracy in Performance starts at 9:00 a.m. and middle and high school targeted events end at 1:45 p.m.  Four events take place indoors; the other events will be held in large festival tents (with side flaps in case of rain).  Students should dress appropriately and bring a bag lunch (which can be eaten in any outdoor venue).  Guides will take student groups to each venue.  A middle and high school art exhibit entitled “Social Realism 2012” will also be on display.  A copy of the schedule of events for the day can be found at http://www.hofstra.edu/Academics/Colleges/HCLAS/CCE/cce_eod2012_performance.html.

To make your event selections, please visit our Expressions of Democracy website:  www.hofstra.edu/eod2012 and click on “learn more” under the Democracy in Performance section. A description of the event, the event list and a “register for performances” tab will then appear.  Questions can be directed toCynthia.J.Bogard@hofstra.edu or 516-463-5640.  Please check back for instructional materials we will post for your download and use.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
