Event Description

Molloy College is pleased to present the conference: A Parent’s Guide to Post-Secondary Transition Planning: Securing Optimal Supports and Services for Developmentally Disabled Students. The conference will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Molloy’s Suffolk Center campus at 7180 Republic Airport, East Farmingdale, NY 11735.

The conference is designed for parents, guardians and care-givers of developmentally disabled students who are making the transition from school to a variety of post-secondary life experiences. This conference will provide answers to questions that parents most frequently ask to help them understand this transition process. However, professionals such as: school district personal involved in the transition planning process (special education administrators, school psychologists, school social workers, guidance counselors, special education teachers) and college faculty who prepare students in the fields of special education, social work, psychology, law and finance will benefit from attending this conference. College students are invited to attend at a discounted rate of tuition.

Speakers will include: Dr. Allen A. Schwartz, Senior Policy and Research Analyst at the Westchester Institute for Human Development in Valhalla, NY and a Senior Lecturer at New York Medical College; Peter Smergut, Executive Director, Life’s WORC; Patricia Howlet, a registered nurse and practicing attorney; Craig Marcott, CFP, a Certified Financial Planner™ and a Special Needs Consultant in private practice and Vicki Schnep, Publisher/CEO of weekly community newspapers in Queens and Brooklyn and Founder of Life’s WORC.

A continental breakfast and a buffet lunch is included in the price of the conference.
