Event Description

The Long Island Writing Project is once again inviting teachers to apply to the 2011 Long Island Writing Project’s Invitational Summer Institute.  This year’s Institute is being held over four, four-day weeks from Tuesday, June 28, through Thursday, July 21, 9am-4pm, on the Nassau Community College Campus.   "Writing Project Summer Institutes attract a rich mix of reflective practitioners at different points in their careers and from a variety of districts. Across grade level and subject areas, teachers work in reading and writing groups on topics such as generating writing, revising, editing, writing to learn, and assessment, to name just a few. The participants consider how best to work with the range of students in our classrooms, addressing inclusion and English Language Learners.

Even if your district is not offering financial incentives to teachers who earn credits, teachers who want to improve their teaching of writing can still be financially reimbursed for their time and effort.  Since the LIWP is a federally-funded site of the National Writing Project, teachers who are accepted will receive a $900 stipend.  If they choose to, participants can receive up to six graduate credits from Hofstra, but they must pay Hofstra’s tuition.  Teachers from some districts may earn in-service credit.

Mentors.net - a Professional Development Resource

Mentors.net was founded in 1995 as a professional development resource for school administrators leading new teacher induction programs. It soon evolved into a destination where both new and student teachers could reflect on their teaching experiences. Now, nearly thirty years later, Mentors.net has taken on a new direction—serving as a platform for beginning teachers, preservice educators, and

other professionals to share their insights and experiences from the early years of teaching, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence. We invite you to contribute by sharing your experiences in the form of a journal article, story, reflection, or timely tips, especially on how you incorporate AI into your teaching

practice. Submissions may range from a 500-word personal reflection to a 2,000-word article with formal citations.
