Event Description

The LI School Leadership Center is pleased to present an important workshop.

Workshop Title: First Aid for High Stakes Dilemmas: Creating a Responsive School through Invitational Education
Where: Wheatley Center (see directions below)
When: May 28, 2008 - 4:30 to 6:30 PM
Presenter: Joan Fretz
Fee: $50
Description:

Administrators and teachers can consistently invite success in today's high stakes climate by employing an invitational approach to learning. An invitational educator sees students and staff as able, valued and responsible, and employs a stance of respect, trust, care and optimism through intentionally inviting language and behavior. In an invitational school, all staff members help to create a positive performance culture and strive to "treat each student as if they were solely responsible for his or her self-regard."

Invitational Education is based on perception and self-concept theories and democratic principles. Developed by Dr. William W. Purkey, it provides today's leaders with an easy to use "first aid kit" of practical strategies to help nurture self-concept and increase school success. Join us as we create responsive schools that will invite cooperation, confidence, motivation and effort!
