Özgür Akas is Head of Mathematics Department at Robert College, Istanbul, Turkey.
Recognized globally for her pioneering work in innovation and educational technology, Özgür Akas has 20 years of experience in education as a Mathematics teacher, core staff member, MUN (Model United Nations)-EYP (European Youth Parliament) advisor, and Head of Mathematics. She has been an Apple Professional Development Authorized Trainer for two years. She is also a co-author of a geometry book called ’ Take Time to Think About Geometry’.
As an advocate of professional development, she is on the steering committee of the annual ATC (Autumn Teacher Conference) in Istanbul, Turkey, which is designed around the concept of Teachers Teaching Teachers.
Ozgur is a pioneer is tapping students’ creativity through assigning purposeful work within traditional curricula. She is the designer of an award winning project where her students have been teaching mathematics and geometry to blind children. Through their direct experience and research, her students have developed a hands-on mathematics curriculum for visually impaired kids. This work will be globally published in 2015.
Ozgur has also designed and presents a highly acclaimed training to parents to help them to understand 21st century learning skills and necessity of technology in education.
