A 100-year-old teacher who was still working at a South Side school has died.

Olivia Neubauer began her teaching career in 1935 and until her death this weekend, was still helping young children learn to read at the Ashburn Lutheran School on 83rd street, just west of Kedzie.

The head of the school says she died in her sleep yesterday after a brief illness.

Just before her 100th birthday last March, she told WBBM’s Bernie Tafoya that she never imagined she’d be teaching so long.

As for when she planned to retire, Neubauer said a few months ago, the Lord would tell her when to quit.
