Marc’s unique combination of presentation skills, vision, and practicality — in addition to his unique connection to students — make him an exceptional speaker and writer about education.
Marc is well-known for presenting original, innovative ideas that change people’s perspectives on the future and for developing practical solutions that can be applied today.

Marc has taught at the primary, secondary and college levels.
Marc ran a “street academy” in the 1980s, an early prototype of what is today called a charter school.

Marc’ professional focus is on: understanding education from the students’ perspective, designing better curriculum and pedagogy for the digital generation, figuring out how to best put human minds and digital tools together wisely in business, in school, and in life (i.e. “Digital Wisdom”) Through his writing and talks, Marc has helped thousands of educators learn to adapt their pedagogy in ways that are far more effective for the 21st century, including a new form of “partnering” between teachers and students.

Marc has been a professional classical musician, performing at Lincoln Center on lute and classical guitar, and he has acted on Broadway in Cyrano, starring Christopher Plummer (at the Palace Theater in 1974).

Marc has also worked on Wall Street, spent six years with the prestigious Boston Consulting Group (as a corporate strategist and product development director), and been CEO of his own company for over a decade. He has designed dozens of educational games, and has worked extensively as an educational consultant.

Marc holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, cum laude, and Master’s degrees in teaching (from Yale University ), language (from Middlebury College) and business (from The Harvard Business School, with distinction.)

Marc is a native New Yorker. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, a Japanese writer, and their son, a thriving third-grader in the New York City public schools.
