What are some of the best things school districts can do to defend against cyberattacks?

The Dim Bulb

The Occasional Musings of an Educator

The brain is capable of performing 10 quadrillion (that’s 10 to the 16th) “calculations,” or synaptic events, per second using only about 15 watts of power. At this rate, a computer as powerful as the human brain would require 1 gigawatt of power. Maybe a dim bulb isn't really as dim as it seems.

One of the best things school districts can do to prevent cyber attacks on their systems is to implement robust cybersecurity measures, such as:

  1. Regularly updating and patching software and systems to fix known vulnerabilities
  2. Use of anti-virus and anti-malware software to detect and remove malicious software
  3. Implementing firewalls to prevent unauthorized access to the network
  4. Educating employees and students about cybersecurity best practices and how to spot and report suspicious activity
  5. Regularly backing up important data to protect against data loss in the event of a successful attack
  6. Conducting regular penetration testing and vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential vulnerabilities
