Top apps for teachers and parents you haven't been using but should

Chances are you are already using technology at your lessons. Nevertheless, very few of us, educators, turn to educational apps that by now are presented in a wide variety. For those, who are interested in applying new technology into education, below is a list of top apps for teachers and parents you haven’t been using but should.

Myhomeworkapp. The app is perfect for those wishing to control and track the progress of students remotely. Teachers can leave comments and put marks to each home assignment. The app has a nice interface and is very easy to use, even for those who are not tech-savvy.

Pumpic.com The app allows you to block unwanted websites and applications that contain 18+ content. It has many features like social media monitoring and Internet usage tracking which decreases the possibility of cyberbullying, sexting and contacts with online predators. In addition, you can track real-time GPS location of your student by setting geo-fences with triggers like “school”, “home” etc. Each time the child leaves or enters these triggers, the alert message is sent to the teacher or parent.

Lightbot. Programming has never been more valuable than today. This app introduces step-by-step coding for children aged 4-9. The learning is provided through an interactive game, where children navigate a robot to stand, walk, jump etc. The commands become harder as the levels move on.

StudyBlue. This is the fastest growing and by now the largest online library. With 250 million digital notecards it covers almost all subjects, starting with Math and ending with Zoology. Moreover, you can create your own flashcards and share them with students and parents.

MyGradebook. The app is great for teachers and parents wishing to monitor their students/children’s grades. Teachers can add a course, assignments, indicating terms, grade-scale etc. The app syncs with dropbox which makes it almost impossible to lose the information.

Symmetry School, Learning Geometry. This is a great way to engage students in a Mathematical thinking. It has an interactive gameplay where kids drag and drop multicolored blocks. In addition, there are printable activities and whiteboard option. The results can be emailed to teachers if preferred.
