A Network Connecting School Leaders From Around The Globe
Hello, school leaders. I hope this message is read by others with similar issues. I am certain many of you can relate to the frustration of responding to new bully laws and guidelines. You have all heard, "nothing was done about this." Does anyone out there have any suggesstions, ideas, programs, anything that will help us to respond to and stop this behavior. I did everything by the law and more but still do not feel that I am successful. There must be a way to help the children that are bullied and the bullies also; I have read and researched and tried different programs. Maybe, society has to change if we are to make a difference.
Each year, I find that our students and parents are less and less responsible for their actions. Each and every time I called in a parent to respond to a discipline problem with their child, they made excuses for them and refused to assume any responsiblity. This did not just happen with one or two parents; it happened with all of them. How are we to change the behaviors of these children without parent support? How can we reach parents in a way that does not compromise their values and beliefs? What is happening in this society that makes us all feel that something is owed to us or that we should not work to make our lives better? Sorry if you have all heard this a million times but I am a new principal and would really like to hear any ideas, suggestions, viewpoints.
