Lessons from a debate coach about online discussions
Debate coach John Ng constructs his online discussions with students by first appointing one of the students as a group facilitator so the students take charge of the talk. He expects formal research on the topic to be done before the discussion starts, or if that isn't possible, he allows 10 minutes at the beginning for students to research the topic.
