How to Remain Competitive in the Job Market

Competition for teaching positions is growing across the board. With so many people electing to become educators, it may be worth strengthening yourself as a contender for the positions that others are beginning to seek. If you’ve already established all of your teaching credentials, now is the time to put them on display in a way that demonstrates that you are a valuable candidate for any relevant positions that might come your way.

Optimize Your Resume

It’s never a bad time to pick through your resume. When you’re vying for a position that particularly piques your interests, optimizing your resume can make all the difference in the world. Bulky resumes are hard to navigate, and many resumes feature details that don’t make as much difference as you believe. Strip down your resume to your most important accomplishments and spend the majority of the length detailing the things you’re most proud of.

Follow the Right Blogs

Following the right blogs and staying abreast with trends and innovation in the education industry can actually make you a better interview. If you’re up to date with current standards, you’ll already know what’s going to be expected of you before it’s been explained. You’ll be the first to know if there are any new skills you should learn or proficiencies you should improve.

Set up a Website

Every teacher should have a website. It’s one of the easiest ways to relay information and resources to students and parents alike. A website is also the best way to create a page all about you that highlights your proudest accomplishments as an educator. In short, a website is basically too useful not to have. You don’t need to learn to build a website on your own – you can always just hire someone on Gumtree to do all the hard work for you.

Brush Up On Your Education

If you can find the time to do so, you might want to consider furthering your education or taking additional courses to add to your educational arsenal. Take your degree to the next level, or obtain a specialty certification. Even things like first aid training can become handy in the classroom. You don’t need to be a jack of all trades, but there may be a few certificates that will boost your status as a potential candidate for a job opening in the teaching sector.

Learn a New Language

Bilingual educators are invaluable. You can take your job with you anywhere around the world as long as you know to speak the native language of that region plus one. Global connections are being bridged across every country, and they’re getting stronger every day. This has created an increased need for language educators.

On another side of the same coin, education is extending to the developing world. Speaking multiple languages can also increase your probability of landing a rewarding position working with impoverished children. Learning a new language can be difficult, but it all becomes worth it in the end.

Becoming more competitive may require you to think outside the box. Any move you make to improve your status is a good move. It may require a higher level of commitment, but harder work will always lead to a greater reward.
